
For successful Census, Korean communities support is required- Armstrong, regional director of US Census Bureau will actively support their census campaigns.

2010 Census Philadelphia district regional director, Fernando Armstrong made a promise that he will actively support the Korean Census Outreach committee’s campaigns for the upcoming Census that is only month left from now.
President Kyung Taek Kim, President of Korean Food Association Hee Chul Im, many public relation research committee, and media officials visited the outreach committee office, paid a courtesy call to the director Armstrong, to make a promise on a definite support on Korean society campaign from US Census Bureau.
Armstrong stated and promised, “without each community’s active support, we, as the Census Bureau cannot fulfill successful process in Census. Korean community is a voluntary and systematic community that became model for other communities that in the view of US Census Bureau, they have no choice but to actively support the Korean American Outreach Committee.”
To help the Census that will start beginning March, Armstrong also plans to install QAC (Question Answer Center) in each community, having Census committee stationed in QAC to help filling out the Census questionnaire.
QAC is going to be installed starting March 18th to April 19th in each community’s church, or organizations. US Census Bureau already sent each communities’ organizations the letter of cooperation.
Armstrong mentioned, “I think this term will be short.” and requested the Korean Outreach committee’s help.
This day, US Census Bureau delivered their Korean translated posters, stickers, brochure, and etc to Korean Outreach Committee.
Armstrong also mentioned that US Census Bureau is recruiting part-time staff during the Census period to work concentrating Census, and hopes many Korean Americans volunteer or work as a part-time staff in US Census Bureau.
Currently, US Census Bureau is recruiting part-time staff in each district, even though there are some variation in each district, it is announced $18~$20 per hour, and guarantees total 20 hours of work per week that many Korean students or Korean residents will apply.
Attorney Kyung Taek Kim said, “Armstrong also made clear that if high school students volunteers, they will issue a Certificate in name of US Census Bureau to each student. And also, if students volunteers, it will leave good record for their entrance to college, that he requests many Korean students to participate in Census.”
Meantime, Korean Census Outreach Committee plans to have a meeting next week concerning the campaigning in Korean society.
The outreach committee plans to have outdoor campaign, each church and organization campaign, and etc. Especially, as promised by Phildelphia church association and other religious organization they will launch a seminar inviting the representatives of each religious group. After they will go back to their church, temple, etc to heavily launch a Census campaign.
